Services & Programs
Information and Referral Services include basic information and awareness of assistive technology devices and services with referrals to other organizations/agencies as appropriate.
Limited services available at no charge.
Consulting Services are typically one-on-one with either individual with a disability and/or professionals where specific situations are discussed and possible solutions suggested. Written reports are typically not a part of a consultation but can be arranged for in advance on a case-by-case basis at the same hourly rate.

Intervention Services are available on a case by case basis and is direct one on one service delivery with an individual or professional to provide assistive technology services, for example: making communication boards, programming devices, or filling out funding paperwork.

Evaluation Services are conducted with the following four-step method:
- Collecting information already known about the individual (including existing reports from any or all of the following: medical, educational, psychological, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, as available),
- Collecting more information during the evaluation through setting up trials with various devices, observation, and conversation with the individual/team,
- Deciding what devices and/or services are appropriate through a consensus building process with the individual, their caregivers, therapist and other interested parties,
- Developing a plan and writing a report that explains what products and why and how to implement that plan.
Hourly/Package
An Evaluation Package may also include, depending on the individual’s needs, some of the following services:
- Multiple staff members that represent a variety of educational and rehabilitation disciplines,
- Short term (30 day trial) loan of recommended equipment (when available),
- Follow up services in our facility,
- Follow up services over the phone, e-mail or videophone,
- Training- attending a BTC sponsored workshop.
Training is available on a variety of topics related to assistive technology, computer access, augmentative communication, funding, educational software, adapted toys, etc. BTC publishes a list of workshops that are conducted at our center by either staff, outside consultants or vendors. In addition to our scheduled workshops we also do custom training for individuals or groups, just give us a call to discuss the possibilities.

Textology – Creating Access to Literacy- is the conversion of printed materials into digital formats. BTC’s Textology program is based on volunteer supports. Please contact us for specifics.
Open Labs - Discovering Assistive Technology Applicatons sessions provide registered participants with basic information and hands-on opportunities for guided exploration of devices and resources.
Limited services available at no charge.
Re-Utilization – As devices/equipment becomes available, items are placed with individuals demonstrating need for such items. Please contact us if you are looking for an item or need to find a new home for an item. Due to limited resources, prior contact is required and inquiries are welcomed.
Computer Refurbishing - As gently-used computers become available, units are placed with individuals with disAblilities who cannot afford them. Due to limited resources, applications are available upon request. Indivduals/companies having items to donate should contact the Center to make arrangements.
Lending Libraries of Specialized/Adapted Equipment:
Adapted Toys - Up to five toys may be checked out for a 30 day loan.

Adapted Switches - Up to three switches may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Adapted Digital Books - Up to two books may be checked out for a 15 day loan.

Aids for Daily Living - Up to five items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Computer Adaptations - Up to five items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Environmental Controls - Up to three items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Hearing/Vision Devices -Up to three items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Mobility, Seating & Positioning - Up to three items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Speech Generating Devices/Augmentive Alternative Communication -
Up to three items may be checked out for a 30 day loan.
Fee based on value of item being borrowed.
Loans may be renewed if there is no one on our waiting list for that particular item. Maintenance fees do not include the cost of training.
Additional fees for training may be necessary for some devices due to their complexity.
All fees are due the day of service. We accept cash, check or purchase orders from agencies, schools and other organizations. Unfortunately, we are not able to bill Medicare or Kentucky Medicaid Assistance Program. Fees may be reduced or waived on an individual basis and must be arranged in advance.
