Volunteers

Volunteers NeededThere is a tremendous need for volunteers in every non-profit organization, and BTC is no different. From simple socialization with the people on campus to actually conducting group or community activities, it takes hands-on support for our people to have maximum life experiences. As a volunteer, you will be trained, provide invaluable support, and leave every day with a feeling of overwhelming satisfaction as you see the smiles of people that truly need you.

Many volunteer opportunities are available at BTC. For information on volunteering, please call (859) 294-4343 or (800) 209-7767 and arrange a visit with April Sharon, our Volunteer Coordinator.

Adapted Book Creators

Come help us create "talking books" using everyday tools! Adapted digital books will be placed in our Library for loan to families, teachers and therapists serving young children with disAbilities to have access to literacy.

You may select which of the 17 steps you would like to perform in creating an adapted digital book for young children with disAbilities: acquire books, grab data for our database, scan book into computer using digital scanner (just like using a copier!), crop/rotate images, record audio (well some one has to read the book!!), place cleaned images into PowerPoint slide show, create basic comprehension/assessment questions, create visual language supports using a specialized computer program (piece of cake!), quality checks thru out process, prepare books for distribution (burn CDs, laminate documents, package, etc), and inventory.

We will walk everyone through the process and help them select a specific task. We have even created step by step directions for most tasks so that each step is simple to perform. Don't let the word "technology" intimidate you, you'll be glad you tried it!

Front Line Duty: Greeter/Administrative Assistant

The Center is in need of individual(s) to greet visitors, provide general day-to-day office supports such as answering the telephone, greeting visitors, assisting with services, assist with data entry, etc.

This person would serve as a Team member and is ESSENTIAL to the Center's abilities to serve our community. While volunteers take care of vital everyday office type tasks, staff can provide more/more intense one-on-one services with individuals needing assistance.

Ability to share a smile every time a visitor arrives, every time you answer the phone! Other tasks may be making copies, recording information and entering data, or use basic computer skills to help staff provide vital services to individuals with disAbilities.
